Meaning of the lyrics:
Even earning 5 ryō [equivalent to 5 gold coins] in a single night, I dislike the trade of selling horses. I spend my days holding the reins of horses.
The horse dealer's yukata is very splendid. The shoulders are dark brown like a deer, and the hem is light brown like a bay horse.

Description:
This song, sung around the Hachinohe area, is a min'yō of the oiwake style, just like Nambu oiwake. The lyrics describe leading a horse to the market at night, avoiding the busy daytime traffic. The accompaniment in this recording uses triplets, but a form closer to quintuplets seems to be more common (the former was chosen due to sound quality considerations).
